As the Principal Backend Software Engineer on the Cloud Transition team, you will be key in designing, developing, and implementing backend systems that underpin our cloud transition initiatives. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to define the architecture, establish best practices, and mentor junior engineers. Your expertise will be vital in optimizing our backend services for cloud environments.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of scalable and reliable backend systems for cloud-based applications.

  • Collaborate with product managers, architects, and other stakeholders to define technical requirements and system architecture.

  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

  • Implement best practices for software development, including code reviews, testing, and documentation.

  • Analyze and optimize system performance to ensure high availability and low latency.

  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies related to cloud computing and backend development.

  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from concept to deployment and maintenance.

  • Work on platform capabilities to power customer-facing solutions/experiences such as migration assistants (JCMA, CCMA), App Migrations, and Routine Admin tasks (sandbox data clone, cloud-to-cloud data transformation, backup-restore).

  • Engage in compliance initiatives across platform and product stacks ranging from cloud infrastructure to product experiences.

  • Collaborate with Core Engineering, products, and platform teams on high-scale and high-reliability transformative architecture, such as Kafka & Kafka Stream adoption.

  • Ensure the adoption of world-class engineering and operational practices across teams.

  • Partner across the enterprise group and various Platform teams to deliver key architecture outcomes for strategic programs.

  • Act as a change agent in bringing in industry standards to boost velocity and engineering best practices.

  • Provide architecture guidance for various critical programs in partnership with different Engineering Managers, other Engineers, and cross-functional teams.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Preferably 10+ years of experience in the industry with proven AWS and SaaS skills.

  • 8+ years of experience in backend software development, with a strong emphasis on cloud technologies.

  • Extensive experience in streaming platforms such as Kafka or Flink

  • Experience interacting with internal and external customers

  • Must have worked on complex architectural challenges and at scale.

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or Go.

  • Extensive experience with cloud platforms ( AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and microservices architecture.

  • Strong understanding of database technologies (SQL and NoSQL) and data modeling.

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to communicate crisply and talk technology to engineering and cross-functional teams.

Compensation

At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable,
and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than
that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline.
Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience.
In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges
for new hires in each zone are:


Zone A: $205,700 - $274,300

Zone B: $185,200 - $246,900

Zone C: $170,800 - $227,700


This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
