The Role

Loom is looking for an experienced and passionate Design Manager to own and drive forward the Growth & Enterprise experiences of Loom – empowering millions of people to communicate faster and more effectively at work with video. For Growth, leading initiatives that increase the growth of end users on Loom. For Enterprise, leading initiatives that meet the needs of admin users on Loom who manage enterprise workspaces. This person will bring exceptional design, strategy, communication and people management skills.

As manager, you will be managing a talented team of Growth and Enterprise designers, and hold a high bar for craft to ensure the team is delivering intuitive and delightful experiences. As leader, you will be a foundational member on the Loom leadership team, codefining the user-centered vision, strategy, and roadmap for the team, alongside product and engineering. You embody strong operations and communications skills that guide the team to build great products anchored in real user needs. You’ll be expected to utilize your full range of people management skills, product strategy, product design, interaction design and visual design skills. You will define best practices, design for challenges both big and small, and lay the foundations for our product for years to come.

You will report to the Head of Design at Loom, and this is a remote role that must be located between PST and EST to help our teams work together.

  • Strategy owner & influencer with strong product sense:

    • With Product & Engineering leadership, define and own user-centered strategy and design execution of teams

      • Proactively identify new problems and opportunities for the team that are rooted in user problems, working intimately with user research and data to propose paths forward

      • Drive bold, innovative conceptual ideas and turn them into useful and valuable products for our billions of users.

      • Partner with go-to-market and customer success teams to help shape our strategy and to bring a user centric approach to implementing for both prospective customers and enterprise customers

      • For roadmap delivery, partner with engineering and product to have a working understanding of technical systems in order to creatively scope prioritization & trade-offs

  • People manager:

    • Build and manage a talented team of product designers that consistently raises the craft bar on projects and is well-balanced across a range of design skill sets.

    • Responsible for overall team performance and health, resource allocation, project prioritization, and building an environment of high quality design.

    • Oversee complex design initiatives spanning multiple workstreams, maintaining a high-quality standard and removing blockers to ensure timely delivery.

    • Provide strategic, visual and systems-oriented feedback for end-to-end flows and experiences to ensure they are simple and delightful

  • Organizational leader:

    • Work alongside the broader Design leadership team to craft our teams’ culture, processes, and tools and ensure we’re building toward a connected vision and product experience

    • Contribute to strategic decisions around the future direction of Loom

    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across the Atlassian product portfolio to drive alignment and support for design initiatives.

  • Ensure high-quality, outcome-focused deliverables by effectively managing and prioritizing multiple workstreams.

  • Develop a deep understanding of the Atlassian Home ecosystem and how design decisions impact the broader Atlassian products.

  • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback, fostering a high-performing, balanced, and diverse design team.

  • Promote alignment and build trust across cross-functional teams, clearly communicating complex issues and fostering collaboration.

  • Lead your team through change and ambiguity, ensuring consistent delivery and adapting to evolving priorities.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • You believe deeply in the power of video and its ability to transform communication at work

  • You have a minimum of 8-10+ years of experience in Product Design and a minimum of 3+ years experience of directly managing Product Designers

  • You stand on an outstanding portfolio, with presentable case studies showcasing how you’ve lead teams towards high craft experiences from inception through launch

  • You have expertise and a background in design leadership roles for organizations in organizations that have shipped software to users, partnering closely with Product and Engineering

  • You have experience leading product direction and strategic thinking with the experience developing product goals, identify opportunities, and make decisions based on the impact to people and the company.

  • You have experience in people development and up-leveling design craft – you have what it takes to grow and empower an incredible design team

  • You are a coach to others and give and ask for honest and critical feedback - you inspire, not merely direct

  • You have experience leading a diverse team in a rapid growth environment. Huge plus if you’ve worked with distant teammates and understand the communication patterns of working with highly distributed teams

  • You have demonstrable experience working with data and research, conducting and measuring product design experiments, and a passion for setting and achieving OKRs and metrics that materially impact the business.

  • You have proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners, align stakeholders, and influence product strategy.

  • You're an excellent communicator, both written and verbal, and you're comfortable managing high-stakes communications with leadership

  • You embody a learning and growth mindset: Our team size and our design process will evolve and change many times over the next few years. We strive to continuously improve and integrate what we learn — from our work and with each other

  • You lead with empathy and resilience: empathy for our customers, to build a product and a service they’ll love. Empathy for our coworkers, to build a workplace we’ll love. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with delivering 0-1 products from concept stages to launch, bringing bold ideas to life

  • Experience working on large scale, complex, ambiguous projects across multiple teams

  • Experience managing support for multiple product teams at one time

  • Experience with high velocity experimentation

Compensation

At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience. In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:

Zone A: $188,700 - $251,600

Zone B: $169,900 - $226,500

Zone C: $156,600 - $208,900

This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
