Responsibilities

Your future team

The mission of the PaaS Technical Program Management team is to work across Engineering to implement Core Engineering's infrastructure strategy with greater velocity and more predictable outcomes for our customers. This team works with the engineering leadership team to ensure that strategic technical programs are successful and standards are derived from those programs to help our scale. The members of the organization are important in influencing the technical strategy and aligning it with our goals in delivering outcomes towards our business continuity strategy.

As Head of TPM, you will bring executive leadership necessary to transform and drive the PaaS strategy.

For this role, you will demonstrate innovative thinking, lean on collaborative problem-solving skills, and exercise a passion for working in a highly cross-functional environment. This is a unique opportunity to influence important technical decisions across the company. You will be working with world-class engineering teams to build central solutions while breaking down technical barriers and strengthening existing systems.

You will be leading and growing a team of TPMs that are driving the next generation of the network and compute platform for all Atlassian’s cloud products.

As a member of the TPM team, you will also shape the TPM craft, which is still in a formation stage. We envision TPMs to have strong technical depth, ability to shape product strategy and drive its execution in close collaboration with stakeholders across numerous crafts and product areas.

What you'll do

  • Analyze the state of the Network and Compute platforms, understand the business objectives, customer needs, product adoption inhibitors, industry trends, and based on these, in close collaboration with your stakeholders, define a long-term strategy and roadmap for continued scale.

  • Ensure translation of the strategy and platform/product requirements into technical requirements and solutions in collaboration with your partner teams and engineering counterparts.

  • Streamline the execution of the articulated roadmap. This will require scoping and execution of numerous programs, and assign the appropriate leaders for each of them.

  • Drive adoption/usage of your platform across Atlassian products and external partners and customers.

  • While this list highlights the most common responsibilities, I want to emphasize the importance of the sense of ownership that you will have for your platform and products, programs, customer scenarios. This means that you will need to proactively identify any inhibitors, issues or opportunities, and proactively address them yourself or find the right owners to do so. The bottom line is that you are a true owner of your area and the buck stops with you.

  • Hire and enable professional and career growth of your team members.

  • As a senior member of the PaaS community, you may be driving some of the most complex, cross-divisional projects/initiatives. This could include managing complex dependencies and projects with a broad scope across the company

Your background

  • 12+ years of experience in program leadership on software teams as TPM, Engineer Manager or PM

  • 5+ years of people management experience

  • Analyzing business priorities, customer needs, industry trends and articulating a long-term roadmap for your area of responsibilities

  • Translating customer and/or product requirements into technical requirements

  • Influencing architecture or technical design, by leveraging subject matter expertise and technical depth that you build in your previous roles

  • Driving projects spanning multiple teams, including negotiating and reaching agreement with your partners and stakeholders, shepherding the project while identifying and mitigating risks, making trade-off decisions optimizing the outcome

  • Experience building in commercial Cloud Services

  • Experience with global-scale distributed cloud technology and solutions, such as Kubernetes
